For more than 35 years, Michael G. Herman has received the highest “AV” peer rating for ability and ethics from Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Herman concentrates his real estate practice on transactions, both domestic and international, with
an emphasis on:

  • Purchases, sales and exchanges of commercial and residential property;
  • Commercial and retail development;
  • Shopping center and other commercial and retail leasing; and
  • Property management and consulting arrangements.

In so doing, Mr. Herman has advised and worked closely with shopping center developers, buyers and sellers of commercial and residential real estate, architects and contractors, commercial landlords and tenants, and brokers and consultants on numerous aspects of commercial and residential properties.

In the general business and commercial arena, Mr. Herman counsels clients in a wide range of business and corporate matters, including:

  • Selecting and forming business entities such as corporations, LLCs, partnerships and joint ventures;
  • Addressing ongoing operational issues;
  • Complying with related state and federal securities law issues;
  • Buying and selling of businesses;
  • Properly dissolving and liquidating businesses; and
  • Resolving disputes.

The firm’s business clients have ranged from a well-regarded West Coast coffee store franchise to a significant player in the skateboarding industry, from above and below-the-line members of the television and motion picture industries to nonprofit corporations, and from physicians and accountants to restaurateurs and small business owners. Mr. Herman’s experience extends to representing his clients’ interests on transactions in Western Europe, East Asia and Australia.

Mr. Herman’s published articles include “The SEC’s New Regulation D,” 5 Los Angeles Lawyer, September 1982; “Section 25102(f): California’s New Counterpart to Regulation D,” 5 Los Angeles Lawyer, October 1982.

Mr. Herman received his A.B. degree in History, with honors, in 1976 from Stanford University, where he served as student body president. In 1980, he received his J.D. degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, where he was on the editorial board of the Communications and Entertainment Law Journal, considered the nation’s preeminent law journal covering the rubric of communications, entertainment and intellectual property law. As a practicing attorney, Mr. Herman is a member of the State of California and Los Angeles County bar associations, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.

Mr. Herman has been active in community activities. Among other involvements, he serves on the Board of Directors of Team Prime Time, an intervention program for at-risk children in low-income areas of Los Angeles that combines academics, athletics and leadership training. In addition, Mr. Herman is the past president of the West Los Angeles Little League and has coached Little League baseball for 19 years in the West Los Angeles and Beverly Hills programs.
